Piste da sci

Courmayeur offers 100 km of piste and there is skiing for all standards. Famous runs include the World Cup Downhill and the International, a 6km (4 mile) with a 1000 metre drop (3300 ft). There is abundant off piste skiing and also heli-skiing is available for those more daring.

There are two main ski areas. The largest is the Plan Chécrouit on the opposite side of the valley from the Mont Blanc, located directly above the resort and is best suited for beginners and intermediates with some off-piste routes also available. Plan Checrouit is where the main cable car from town arrives. A short 100 metre walk from the arrival takes skiers to the three main lifts which carry on to the upper slopes. A gondola takes skiers up to Col Chécrouit and from here a small cable car goes to Cresta Youla which, at 2624 m (8,700 ft), is the highest skiing for the average skier. Experts can ski from the Cresta Arp at 2755m (8,954 ft), but only with guides. On the Val Veny side the skiing is picturesque and mainly through trees.

The second major skiing area at Courmayeur is Mont Blanc itself. Here a cable car carries skiers in three stages to almost 3353 m (11,000 ft) where they can ski back down toward Courmayeur, over the mountain to Chamonix, or spend some time skiing on the glacier accompanied by a guide. The resort has a very good snow record and has extensive snow making facilities.

Famous runs: 20 km (13 mile) run from Helbronner (reached by the La Palud cable car) through the Vallée Blanche to Chamonix. Courmayeur and Chamonix are linked by buses passes through the Mont Blanc tunnel.
